Here I write about the interesting things I have been trying to do
Our Contribution to Terzaghi Lecture 2024
I have been blessed with some of the most incredible students, any academic could have hoped for. Despite the hustle and bustle of life in Egypt, we tried to form a group called the computational geomechanics research group in Cairo University – Faculty of Engineering (CGRG-CUFE).
A member of the group, Eng. Omar Madi worked with Prof. Akl to help with the analysis featured in Prof. Whittle’s 2024 Terzaghi Lecture. The analysis investigated the failure of Sergipe Breakwater in Brazil. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPyojupXtvw&t=4s)

The first workshop of the Egyptian Tunneling Association
I have been blessed with some of the most incredible students, any academic could have hoped for. Despite the hustle and bustle of life in Egypt, we tried to form a group called the computational geomechanics research group in Cairo University – Faculty of Engineering (CGRG-CUFE).
The work of another member of the group, Eng. Mohamed Abdelgaleel was featured in the first seminar of the Egyptian Tunneling Society for the 2024-2025 academic year under the supervision of Prof. Akl (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65txHeylbfg). The work used advanced programming to create a database comprising results from more than 15,000 finite elements models to predict tunneling induced settlements.
