Biography

Sherif grew up in the vibrant district of Mohandesseen and used to go to the English speaking Misr Language School. He joined Cairo University in 1998, and graduated from the Civil Engineering Department in 2003. He was at the top 1% of his class (Distinction with Honors) and worked as a teaching assistant till he finished his Master’s thesis in 2005 in Geotechnical Engineering.

Sherif received the presidential fellowship from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005 and started working in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department as a Research Assistant in 2006 with Prof. Andrew John Whittle. In 2010, he received his PhD degree.

Upon graduation he got the position of a Research Geomechanicist in Shell Oil Company in Houston. Sherif joined a handful of his colleagues in the early days of reservoir geomechanics being a part of the upstream oil industry.

In 2012, Sherif returned to Egypt and was appointed as an Associate Professor in the Public Works department in Cairo University. His research focused on Soil Structure Interaction and Computational Geomechanics. He became a full professor in 2022 and founded the CGRG-CUFE.

In 2025, Sherif was appointed the Director of the DRTPC and initiated several new programs such as Project, Program, Portfolio Governance Consulting and the STEM Entrepreneurship Enabler programs.
